Cognitive Bias Modification Technique
People who expect rejection start finding it everywhere — in a neutral face, a slow reply, a closed door. This technique tries to retrain the finding itself.
The method is almost disappointingly plain: practice, in volume. Hundreds of quick exercises — pick the friendly face in the crowd, read the ambiguous sentence generously. No arguing with your thoughts; just drill, the way you would drill a forehand.
The principle underneath deserves respect: the mind's habits of interpretation are exactly that — habits. And habits, as every smoker and every pianist knows, do not yield to lectures. They yield to repetitions.
So if your mind has a reflex that harms you — expecting the worst, hearing criticism in neutral words — do not merely resolve to think differently. Build the drill. A hundred small corrected readings, done daily. You cannot talk a reflex out of office. You can only train its replacement.
